St. John writes in 1 John 4:13, 'By this we know that we abide in him and he in us, because he has given us of his Spirit,' and the Coptic diaspora is a manifestation of this spiritual unity.
The preservation of faith across continents is not merely a matter of cultural or historical significance, but a deeply spiritual endeavor. It requires a commitment to the teachings of the Church, a devotion to the sacraments, and a fervent prayer life. Fr. Tadros Malaty notes that the Church is the pillar and ground of the truth, and it is this truth that the Coptic diaspora seeks to uphold and proclaim to the world.
The apostle Paul writes in Romans 5:3-5, 'Not only that, but we also glory in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance; perseverance, character; and character, hope. And hope does not put us to shame, because God’s love has been poured out into our hearts through the Holy Spirit, who has been given to us.' The Coptic diaspora continues to trust in the providence of God, even in the midst of adversity, and this trust is a source of strength and comfort.
St. Augustine said, 'The Church is the body of Christ, and we are its members.' This understanding should guide our actions and decisions as members of the body of Christ. St. Paul writes in 2 Timothy 1:14, 'Guard the good deposit that was entrusted to you, guard it with the help of the Holy Spirit who lives in us.' We must guard this deposit of faith, and it will continue to guide and inspire us as we journey through this earthly life.
The words of Pope Shenouda III are a guiding principle for us: 'The Church is the haven of salvation, and we must cling to it, for it is the ark of Noah that saves us from the flood of sin and corruption.' We must cling to this haven, and we will emerge victorious in our struggle against the forces of darkness, our hearts filled with the light of Christ.
